The 27th edition of Montecatini Opera Festival opens in grand style.  The Opening Gala will have as special guest the soprano Mariangela Sicilia, protagonist of the New Year’s concert at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, who will be awarded the International Prize “Il Parnaso 2025”.  Hailed by Le Monde as a “miracle of vocal firmness”, “a soprano that shines like the Provençal morning sun” (Der Tagesspiegel), Mariangela Sicilia has earned accolades at many of the most prestigious opera houses such as the Paris Opéra National, Teatro Real Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Salzburg Festival, Sydney Opera House, Dutch National Opera Amsterdam and the Monte-Carlo Opera. An international star we are honoured to award.

Since the 19th century all the greatest Italian opera composers as Giuseppe Verdi, Gioacchino Rossini, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Giacomo Puccini, have chosen to spend some time in Montecatini Terme to recover at the famous Baths and find inspiration. Lyrical tenor acclaimed in the most important world theatres, but unparalleled interpreter of immortal melodies of the Neapolitan song as well, he was a regular visitor of Montecatini Baths where he loved relaxing and drawing caricatures of the people he met.

Puccini grew up surrounded by women, his mother and six sisters, he payed tribute to women's world in every single Opera with great sensitivity. Key characters whom nobody can remain indifferent. Female’s characters are protagonist in all his drama, carriers of emotions and ideologies, pivot and soul of every story, even if sometimes some male characters try to overwhelm them.
